Working with Others
We enjoy being active in our local community, working alongside other agencies and churches, in order to express the love of God in a practical way.
Christians Against Poverty (CAP)
help those who are weighed down by debt. The service started in 1996 and since then CAP has helped in thousands of situations through its 296 Debt Centres across the UK. Anyone with money worries can contact CAP through its I Want Help
page or by ringing 0800 328 0006 (free from landlines and mobiles) and they will put you in touch with our Torquay Debt Centre.
Christians Together in Torquay (CTT)
LiNX helps Torbay young people reach their full potential. Motivated by the Christian faith, the LiNX team is working everyday in Torbay schools and the local community to reach and support as many young people as possible. Upton Vale partners with LiNX to run lunch clubs, RE lessons, emotional health days and a week-long Summer activities programme every July called 'ELEVATE'. For more information please visit the LiNX website.
School Pastors: The Ascension Trust
exists to pray, worship and work together for the transformation of Torquay into a more Christ-centred community. It aims to be a channel for communication and cooperation between the churches to help Christians in Torquay to unite. A small organising committee works to enable Christians to share the good news of God's love in various ways. They hold a monthly prayer breakfast, organise united services and open-air events. They've been pleased to launch the Winter Night Shelter (ToWNS) and the Community Larder in Torquay, and they support inter-church projects and initiatives. For more information on CTT please contact their Secretary, Lee Bray, via our Contact Us
project School Pastors - an offshoot of Street Pastors - cares for, listens to and helps pupils who might face challenges which arise or come to light on their way home from school. School Pastors Torbay started in 2013 working in one school and today volunteers from Upton Vale and other churches work with six schools across Torquay and Paignton. For more information, contact our School Pastors Coordinator, Alan Moore, via our Contact Us
Torquay Community Larder is based at The Salvation Army in Market Street and is a Christians Together in Torquay project. It's open two mornings a week and is run entirely by volunteers. It provides emergency food parcels and related assistance to those in need. It exists to 'Give a hand up, not a hand out'. There are lots of drop-off points for food items, in most of our supermarkets, schools and churches, including here at Upton Vale. If, as you're reading this, you would like to help you can do this in several different ways - give a donation of food, give a financial gift or volunteer to join the small army of over 50 volunteers from Torquay churches. If you'd like to find out more please contact our Christians Together in Torquay Secretary, Lee Bray, via our Contact Us form.
