UV is a bustling hive of activity on a Sunday and it can be hard to find your way around the place or get the information you’re looking for.
Here’s our top four tips for beating the crush!
- Arrive early if you can – there are always people to chat to, things to see or listen to. Arriving at least 15 minutes before services start is a good way to avoid the rush.
- Look yellow! You’ll spot people wearing bright yellow lanyards and badges. They are members of our Welcome Team who are there to do all they can to make you… welcome!
- Head for the Welcome Desk – you can’t miss it! It’s a desk…in the reception area of the building! It’s manned by knowledgeable, helpful people!
- Hit the Visitors’ Coffee Point – at the end of the morning service check out this specially designated point at the back of the main church so we can meet you. You can also ask any questions and leave your contact details if you’d like to.
Here are a few more things which will help you feel at home if you come to one of our services.
Church Bible: We use the New International Version (NIV). You should find a copy in the seat near you. The relevant page numbers will appear on screen.
Communion: Anyone who knows Jesus Christ as their Saviour and Lord is welcome to join us when we celebrate communion - usually on the fourth Sunday morning and the second Sunday evening of each month. The bread is passed around on plates – usually people take a piece and eat it as they are served. Wine is served in individual small cups - we like to drink together when everyone has been served as a sign of our oneness in Christ. If you feel uncomfortable about taking bread and wine, please let the plates pass you by.
Offering: We usually take up an offering during our service as part of our worship of God. This supports Christian work in this church and around the world. However, please do not feel that you have to contribute.
Plans of the Building are displayed around the building to help you find your way around. Arrows showing the location of the various children's groups are also displayed around the building.
Prayer Ministry Team: Members of our Prayer Ministry Team wear blue lanyards and are available at the end of the service, by the grand piano, at the front of the church. They are there if you would like prayer or just someone to talk to.
Tea and coffee are provided at the end of our services. We encourage guests to go to the Visitors Coffee Point, after the morning service, at the rear of the church so we can meet you.
The Welcome Desk is the main information point in the church on Sundays and can be found as you enter the church. The Welcome Desk is manned before and after the service. If you have any general questions or enquiries there will be people to try and help you. You can also pick up various pieces of literature and information about the church from this point.
The Welcome Team: You’ll notice a number of people around the building wearing distinctive yellow lanyards and name badges - these are members of our Welcome Team and will be able to help you with any questions or concerns you have...or at least try and find someone who can!
Toilets: These are located down the short flight of steps from the reception area when you enter the church. We also have toilets for the disabled. Please ask one of the stewards to direct you to the nearest one.
Words and Worship: Words for the songs and hymns are projected on to the screen at the front and monitors at the sides. If you have difficulty seeing these please ask one of the stewards who will provide you with a printed copy. At times during our worship we put up information on the screens... details of events, important notices, items for prayer, video and pictures that help enrich our worship.
