The Discipleship Terrain helps us understand where we are. Like a map we can use it to help us get our bearings and focus on where we need to get to. It helps us answer questions such as “where am I now?” “Where is God leading me?” “Where am I headed?”

The City – Knowing Others

We may not all love the bright lights, the bling, the crush and the frenetic activity of a big city but it’s impossible to imagine life alone, in isolation. From the start of human history people have nacity1.jpgturally gravitated towards living in community. There are plenty of cities in the bible – Babel, Nineveh, Jerusalem. Places where people lived, worked and learnt together.

In our Discipleship Terrain cities represent living out our faith with and for others. They are places where we learn about each other and how to live with one another – through good times and difficult times; places where we can work together for God and be as Jesus to others.

Upton Vale have a number of small groups. Small groups give us an opportunity to share our journeys together, our joys and our sorrows, with God at the centre, loving us and changing us. They are places where we begin to understand and live out what God asks of us – learning to love one another, forgive one another, encourage one another, care for one another and share God’s love with others. Our hope is that every small group here at UV becomes a place where we can be real with one another and help bear each others’ loads.

Our mountains discipleship terrain looks at how we understand and encounter God and our desert terrain looks at how we view ourselves.
